On a quiet morning in Manipur, Tanushi Singh sits in her lawn with a warm cup of coffee in hand. The hills and fields stretch before her, bathed in the gentle glow of early light. In these calm moments before the day begins, she often pauses to reflect on the path that has brought her here—a journey shaped by words, emotions, and an unwavering belief in the power of expression.

For Tanushi, poetry was never a carefully planned pursuit. Her writing journey began quietly in 2016 as a simple pathway of self-discovery. Poetry became a space where she could pause and reconnect with herself. Motherhood played a significant role in this turning point. Before that, she had been immersed in a demanding professional career, navigating the pace and pressure of her work with little time to slow down or reflect. Writing offered her that pause—a moment to breathe, observe, and rediscover her inner voice.

What started as personal reflection gradually transformed into a creative journey. In the early days, Tanushi began sharing her poems with the international Facebook poetry community Poetry Planet, where writers from across the world connected through their love for verse. Encouraged by the warm response from readers and fellow writers, she soon created her own blog, Create Believe Inspire, where she began publishing her poetry regularly.

During those early years, the ink flowed freely without any defined ambition of becoming a published author. Writing was simply an organic extension of her emotions and reflections. Yet the sincerity of her words resonated with readers far beyond what she had initially imagined.

Her consistent writing eventually caught the attention of Tess Ritumalta, founder of the Poetry Planet community, who also runs a publishing house in the Philippines. Impressed by the emotional honesty of Tanushi’s work, Tess encouraged her to publish her poetry internationally. This opportunity led to the release of Tanushi’s first two poetry collections, Scribblings of My Soul and Rainbow and Her Moon.

These early publications marked the beginning of her formal literary journey. Soon after, she received an unexpected recognition when she was nominated for the Poetry Planet Author Awards for Best Poetry by a Foreign Author. The nomination was both surprising and deeply encouraging, affirming that poetry rooted in authenticity can transcend borders and cultures.

Tanushi’s association with Poetry Planet continued to deepen. She later joined the community as an administrator, conducting poetry challenges and encouraging emerging writers to express themselves through verse. She also contributed regularly to the organization’s international monthly magazine through her column titled An Indian Perspective, offering reflections on culture, identity, and emotional experiences through the lens of an Indian writer.

In July 2023, her contributions were recognized in a particularly meaningful way when she appeared on the cover of Poetry Planet Magazine. The special edition focused on mental health awareness—an issue that resonates strongly with Tanushi’s writing. Her feature followed her win of the magazine’s Best Article Award for her column, highlighting the impact of her voice in conversations around emotional well-being.

While her international presence as a poet was steadily growing, another dream was quietly taking shape—the dream of becoming a published author in India. That turning point came when she met Suhail Mathur, co-founder of The Book Bakers, a popular literary agency that helps authors find major publishers. This meeting with Suhail through a common friend proved to be a defining moment in Tanushi’s writing journey, opening a pathway for her voice to reach readers in India.

In 2019, her first Indian publication, Pursuit of Sunshine in Rain, was released. The book is an autobiographical poetic memoir that explores deeply personal themes such as depression, self-doubt, failure, and the emotional journey toward healing.

Through reflective and heartfelt verses, the work illustrates the belief that even during life’s darkest moments, there is always a path toward hope, resilience, and self-love. The book resonated with many readers and received generous appreciation. Its impact was further recognized when it earned a nomination at the AutHer Awards, presented by The Times Group.

When the global pandemic arrived between 2020 and 2022, poetry once again became Tanushi’s refuge. Like many people around the world, she experienced the emotional uncertainty of those years, and writing became a means of processing complex feelings of isolation, fear, and reflection.

From this deeply introspective period emerged her next poetry collection, Echoes of Silence, released in 2022. The book explores spirituality, surrender, faith, and the journey of self-discovery through quiet resilience. Its themes of inner strength and spiritual connection resonated widely with readers seeking comfort during uncertain times.

The collection went on to win the second runner-up position at the Today Magazine Author Awards and also earned Tanushi another nomination at the AutHer Awards.

Continuing to explore emotional depth in her writing, Tanushi released another poetry collection in 2023 titled Heart in a Hurricane. The book centers on one of her most cherished themes—love. Rather than portraying love only in its romantic beginnings, the collection explores how relationships evolve. It reflects on the resilience required to sustain love through misunderstandings, responsibilities, vulnerability, and life’s inevitable storms.

The book was nominated once again at the AutHer Awards in 2024, marking her third consecutive nomination. It also received recognition at the PragatiE Vichaar Literature Festival Author Awards in 2026 for Best Poetry.

Her literary contributions have also been acknowledged internationally. In 2024, she received the International Excellence Award for her remarkable contribution as a poet. In 2025, she was recognized at the Global Women Inspiration Awards and Conclave as one of the Top 10 Women Artists, Creatives, and Designers for her efforts in empowering women through creativity and leadership.

Other recognitions, including the Bharat Vibhushan Award and the Inspiring Indian Awards, further strengthened her belief that authenticity, consistency, and passion ultimately lead to meaningful success.

Beyond her literary work, Tanushi Singh remains deeply committed to community engagement. She actively contributes to the upliftment of women and children within the military community through welfare initiatives and social outreach. Growing up as a military child and later becoming an army wife, the values of service, resilience, and community have always been deeply rooted in her life.

Education is another cause close to her heart. Having previously worked as a teacher, she continues to remain actively involved in the education sector. Currently, she holds management responsibilities focused on the welfare and holistic development of the Assam Rifles Public School, supporting both academic progress and co-curricular growth. Drawing from her experience in private institutions, she continues to explore innovative ways of nurturing creativity, confidence, and emotional well-being among students.

After publishing several poetry collections, Tanushi is now expanding her creative journey into storytelling. Her upcoming work will be a love story interwoven with poetry—a form that blends narrative with lyrical expression. The project reflects the natural evolution of her writing voice and highlights what many readers recognize as her unique strength: the ability to capture human emotions with honesty, vulnerability, and depth.

At the heart of Tanushi Singh’s writing lies a simple yet profound intention—to reach someone she may never meet, someone who might find comfort, hope, or understanding in her words.

Yet perhaps the most poetic paradox of Tanushi’s life lies in the place she calls home.

In Manipur, where breathtaking hills and lush landscapes create moments of extraordinary serenity, there also exists the reality of uncertainty and unrest beyond the quiet boundaries of everyday life. For Tanushi, this contrast has only deepened her understanding of resilience.

As the wife of a proud Indian Army officer, strength is not merely a choice—it is a way of life. Amid responsibilities, unpredictability, and the quiet courage required of military families, writing has become her sanctuary.

Poetry is where she finds stillness.

It is where she finds freedom.

It is where she gently disconnects from the harshness of reality and reconnects with hope, love, and faith.

And so, on mornings when the mist rises over the hills and the world feels momentarily still, Tanushi sits with her coffee, her thoughts, and her notebook—grateful for the journey that began with a single poem in 2016.

A journey that continues to unfold, one verse at a time.

For Tanushi Singh, writing is not just a passion. It is her refuge, her voice, and the quiet strength that keeps her spirit soaring—no matter what storms may gather beyond the horizon.
